TWOD, The Church, Toad, that’s a trifecta for me (no disrespect to Social Distortion or AA - just weren’t my thing) - great post!!

Love me some Toad! About 30 years ago, I got a video tape of about 5 or 6 of their singles' music videos. I don't think I ever even got an album of theirs! I just picked and chose! I think it all started when I heard (and jaw proceeded to drop) "All I Want," a prodigious piece of songwriting, IMHO!

I even put it on a 5-song "Wanting" Playlist recently, if I may: https://bradkyle.substack.com/p/grow-bigger-ears-11-the-audio-autopsy

I was looking forward to writing a piece about TTWS and “All I Want” in this space, but I was shocked to see that it only got to #22 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. I think it actually charted higher on the Hot 100!

Without looking, I'm guessing, too, that it was a bigger "mainstream" hit than an alt/modern rock hit.

Indeed. Hit #15 on the Hot 100. It was their highest-charting pop hit, which also surprised me (I really thought it would be “Good Intentions,” which must not have qualified for the Hot 100 and didn’t chart, or “Walk On The Ocean,” which peaked at #18 on the Hot 100).

"All I Want" just "felt" like a bigger hit....over the years, it's been the one song that, if a Toad song is played "in public" anywhere, say, like in-store/in-gym systems, it's that one! Plus (and I've written about this), it was played in the New Orleans Superdome during a break in a '92 National Youth Gathering with 40,000+ (plus me) in attendance! They played it so loud (and the crowd, of course, was creating its own din), I could sing it at the top of my lungs, and no one could hear me!
